The Universal Immunization Program in India, is one of the largest of its kind in the world in terms of the quantities of vaccines used, number of beneficiaries reached out to, number of immunization sessions organized, the geographical spread and the diversity of areas covered1 .
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India is committed to rapidly increasing the immunization coverage and equity. Immunization supply chain system (iSCS) is the backbone of immunization program. There are 26,834 Cold Chain Points (CCPs) in the country with an average population of 45.868 covered by each CCP. However, in three big states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, population covered by each CCP is more than 150,0002 . On the other hand, the proportion of session sites with more than one hour travel time from a CCP varies from 16% in Maharashtra to 76% in Arunachal Pradesh2 .
